The Graston Technique: Therapy with the use of tools

Rav Says.....

An effective therapy option offered by our Chiropractor:

The Graston Technique incorporates a patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables Dr. Nagra to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function.

Most of the back is comprised of muscles, ligaments and tendons, and injuries to these soft tissues play a significant role in the pain and dysfunction associated with back problems. While it may not sound like a serious injury, a simple muscle strain or torn ligament in the back can cause excruciating pain and difficulty with movement.

When an injury within the soft tissue occurs, the tissue repairs itself in a haphazard pattern, forming scar tissue. While the scar tissue itself is not painful, it does tend to limit range of motion, and the ongoing stiffness may contribute to back pain or neck pain on an ongoing basis.

The Graston Technique is used to treat injuries in a variety of ways.

  • Separates and breaks down collagen cross-links, and stretches connective tissue and muscle fibers
  • Increases skin temperature
  • Facilitates reflex changes in the chronic muscle holding pattern
  • Alters spinal reflux activity (facilitated segment)
  • Increases the rate and amount of blood flow to and from the area
  • Increases cellular activity in the region, including fibroblasts and mast cells
  • Increases histamine response secondary to mast cell activity

Using specially designed instruments Dr. Nagra's ability to detect adhesions, scar tissue or restrictions in the affected areas is greatly increased. He uses the stainless steel instruments to comb over and "catch" on fibrotic tissue, which immediately identifies the areas of restriction.Once the tissue has been
identified, the instruments are used to break up the scar tissue so it can be absorbed by the body.
Patients usually receive two treatments per week over 4-5 weeks. Most patients have a positive response by the 3rd to 4th treatment.

To book a session with Dr. Nagra, or any questions you may have regarding treatments using the Graston technique please call Kerissa or Alyssa @ 604-850-2511.

It's been a while!

Hello world!

First I'd like to apologize that it's been so long since we have updated our blog! The clinic has been so busy!

Second, we'd like to thank everybody who helped us raise money and food for the local food bank over the holidays.

Thirdly, we have a few announcements to make:

We are proud to announce that we have a few new therapists since our last post.

  1. Dr. Rav Nagra, doctor of chiropractics.  Dr. Nagra is now accepting new patients with limited 3rd party direct billing. (MSP, ICBC, WCB, RCMP and DVA). Call for eligibility.
  2. Dave Reichelt, RMT & AT (diploma). Dave has extensive experience with sports injuries, athletic taping, massage and home care. Dave is accepting new patients and is available for evening and Saturday appointments.
  3. Peggy Yu, RCC and NET practitioner. Peggy is now accepting new patients as well! She has a number of years experience helping clients reach within themselves, and using homeopathic remedies and counselling to reach optimum balance between mental, physical, and emotional wellness.
Our clinic has become quite busy as of late, and I would like to notify you that our hours have expanded.
We are currently open 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM and Saturdays 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM.

Evenings are booking roughly 2-3 weeks in advance.

Our clinic is growing exponentially, and we would like to thank you for your referrals! We are currently in the process of developing a rewards program for referrals. Word of mouth travels very quickly and we appreciate your positive input!

We hope to stay up to date with our blog and continue to communicate as much as possible.

We believe that proper patient education is key to preventing injuries and maintaining healthy lifestyle choices!

Please note that our website is not currently up to date, and you may experience broken links, or long loading times. We apologize for the inconvenience and will have everything up and running very soon. (with lots of new pictures of all the new team members!)

Yours in health,

Kerissa
